Laylah's Surgury

These are before the surgury... Happy Laylah

After surgury, in recovery... Sad Laylah

After an hour in recovery... Happy Laylah is back and laughing at Dad's silly jokes
Ready to go home

Enjoying her ice cream... she asked for this on the way home

Well, it's over. It went very well. We got to the hosptial at about 8:45 AM and they kind of rushed us in and did everything really quickly because they were ahead of schedule. Her doctor was so nice, we really liked him. He , and a nurse and also the anesesiologist each talked to us and made sure we understood everything. Laylah said she wasn't nervous at all and didn't act it one bit. When they took her away, she gave me a hug and said, cheerfully "Bye Mom!" We waited for about 45 minutes and then the Dr. Peterson came in and talked to us and said she did awesome. He said she went to sleep almost immediately, her tonsils and adnoids came out easily and she lost less than a teaspoon of blood. He said she was stirring, but still asleep and that the nurse would come and get us when she awoke. A few minutes later we were taken to her recovery room. I expected her to be fine because she is almost 6 years old and she is very mature for her age. I remember both of Jonah's surgeries, one when he was 12 months and the other at 18 months, where he was practically hysterical because he was so confused and didn't want the I.V. in, etc. I thought Lay would do great because she was older. But she wasn't. She was so sad and confused and crying. She couldn't stop coughing and said her throat hurt (which I don't think it did. The doctor said he puts a numbing shot in there after he removes the tonsils so that it doesn't hurt, but that it would probably feel funny) and on the pain chart, she pointed to the saddest face that indicates the worst pain possible. I tried to comfort her, but she was so out of it. Finally after we turned cartoons on and talked to her quietly for a minute, she calmed down and became her old self. Andy kept trying to cheer her up and make her laugh and she would just stare at him or kind of roll her eyes. Yup, Laylah was back! We stayed for about an hour, and by then she was completely fine. We went home and she didn't have much pain at all yesterday, but today she has randomly started crying and been really upset because her throat hurt. It is supposed to be the worst tomorrow. I feel so bad for her. She has hardly eaten any food. Luckily she continues to drink, and she is on liquid loritab, which she can have every four hours. I'm so grateful everything went well and I hope she's back to her old painfree self soon!

Oh, poor Laylah! What a trooper she is...I'm sure she was confused after waking up. I sure hope she is feeling better and back to her happy self soon. Good luck tomorrow!!

I am glad that everything went so good. I remember when Lance had his surgery, before they took him back they gave him some medicine that made him loopy...he was saying the funniest things. Hopefully she will be up and at it in no time.
